Bratwurst and Broccoli Slaw

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 large onions, sliced 1/2" thick
  • 1/2 c cider or apple juice
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 8 pre-cooked bratwurst, pricked
  • 1/4 c buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/4 tsp caraway seeds, crushed
  • 2 cups broccoli slaw
  • 8 whole-grain hotdog buns.

PREPARATION

  1. In small crock, ombine onions, cider, garlic, thyme, and pepper.
  2. Place bratwurst on onion mixture.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW 5 hours.
  4. Combine buttermilk, mayonnaise and caraway seeds in medium bowl.
  5. Stir in slaw mix; chill.
  6. When bratwurst is finished, remove sausages and onions with slotted spoon; discard liquid.
  7. Serve on buns with the onions and slaw.
