Add chopped onion and cook the onion is translucent. Add ham and garlic. Cook, stirring for 1 minute. 1 Put bacon, bacon fat, and onion into crock along with vegetable stock, blackeyes, ham, garlic, basil, and pepper flakes. Stir to combine 1 Cook in covered crock pot on low until the blackeyes start to become tender. About 3 to 4 hours. 1 Add salt, rice, and tomatoes.
