English Porridge
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 c milk
- 1.5 c water
- 1.5 tsp flake salt (less if using grain salt)
- 1/2 c old fashioned oats
- 1/2 c steel cut oats
- 2 Tbsp sugar or maple syrup
PREPARATION
- Put milk, water and salt in a saucepan and heat over high.
- As soon as it simmers, add both oats and lower heat to medium.
- Cook at a simmer for 20 minutes. The steel cut oats should be just tender and pop when you bite them and the old fashioned oats should be creamy.
- Turn off the heat. Add the sugar or syrup to taste. Put into serving bowls.
- Optionally, add milk and sugar.
