Maple-Glazed Cinnamon Buns

INGREDIENTS

Buns

  • 1 loaf bread dough
  • flour to roll the dough
  • 1/4 c dark brown sugar
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 stick butter, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp butter, melted

Glaze

  • 2 Tbsp cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1/4 c powdered sugar
  • 3 Tbsp maple syrup

PREPARATION

Buns

  1. Dust a work surface with flour.
  2. Place the dough on the floured surface, cover with plastic wrap and set aside 20 minutes.
  3. Stir the brown sugar, cinnamon and salt together in a small bowl and set aside.
  4. Heat oven to 400. Grease a round 8" or 9" pan with 1 Tbsp of the room temperature butter and set aside.
  5. Turn the dough over on the work surface and dust the other side with flour.
  6. Use a rolling pin to roll to 11" to 12" by 7" to 8" rectangle about 1/8" thick.
  7. Mash the remaining 3 Tbsp butter in a small bowl and use your fingers to spread it over the rectangle of bread dough.
  8. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over the dough, using your hand to evenly cover it.
  9. Starting at the bottom, roll it into an 11" to 12" cylinder.
  10. Pinch the seam to seal and then cut the log crosswise into 6 equal pieces.
  11. Put, cut side down, into the baking dish.
  12. Brush with melted butter and bake until golden brown, 22-24 minutes.
  13. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool 5 minutes before glazing.

Glaze

  1. Whisk the cream cheese and confectioners sugar together in a small bowl.
  2. Add the maple syrup and stir to combine.
  3. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the mixture over each cinnamon bun.
