Skillet Italian Biscuits and Gravy

INGREDIENTS

Biscuits

  • 1½ c baking mix
  • ½ c milk
  • 1 c (4 oz.) shredded Italian cheese (mozzarella or provolone)
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

Gravy

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • ½ c flour
  • 2½ c heavy cream

PREPARATION

  1. Heat oven to 400°. In medium bowl, combine baking mix with Italian seasoning. Stir in milk, until well-blended. Add cheese and stir to combine, then set aside.
  2. In 10" cast iron or oven-proof skillet, melt butter. Add sausage and cook, breaking up, until no longer pink. Stir in flour, cook until thickened, about one minute.
  3. Add cream, heat to boiling, while stirring, and boil one minute.
  4. Remove from heat and drop biscuit dough into 8 biscuits on top of gravy.
  5. Bake 14-16 minutes, until biscuits are brown.
