Skillet Italian Biscuits and Gravy
INGREDIENTS
Biscuits
- 1½ c baking mix
- ½ c milk
- 1 c (4 oz.) shredded Italian cheese (mozzarella or provolone)
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
Gravy
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- ½ c flour
- 2½ c heavy cream
PREPARATION
- Heat oven to 400°. In medium bowl, combine baking mix with Italian seasoning. Stir in milk, until well-blended. Add cheese and stir to combine, then set aside.
- In 10" cast iron or oven-proof skillet, melt butter. Add sausage and cook, breaking up, until no longer pink. Stir in flour, cook until thickened, about one minute.
- Add cream, heat to boiling, while stirring, and boil one minute.
- Remove from heat and drop biscuit dough into 8 biscuits on top of gravy.
- Bake 14-16 minutes, until biscuits are brown.
